Be afraid, be very afraid! Only joking, there’s no need to have any fear coming to Dublin Toastmasters. We’re friendly, fun and we enjoy welcoming guests to our club.
Whether you’re a first timer, a regular or a veteran, Dublin Toastmasters is a brilliant way to spend your Thursday evening. I’m definitely a regular and possibly moving towards veteran status. Toastmasters International is a non-profit leadership and communication organisation and this year Dublin Toastmasters is 55 years old. So what do we do in the Dublin club? We’re a start-on-time club that attracts a variety of people from Ireland, Europe and beyond. Many people join to improve their speaking skills but learn to be a better leader through their involvement in the club.
Think on Your Feet!
Our meeting will start with Table Topics which is 2 minutes of ‘thinking on your feet’ speaking for members and guests have the option of speaking or can just listen. Some of our most successful members took months to speak, some are just itching to speak from the moment they arrive and many are some place in between the two. Which are you? Table Topics can be nerve wracking at first but they’re an ideal way to build your confidence. You’ll be amazed at how much better you become at handling questions once you’ve been doing topics for a while. For many, the table topic session is the best part of the meeting.
Flowers to Fluff and more……
Table Topics are a great way to learn the skills to speak coherently under pressure but there’s something really special about the prepared speeches which are in the second part of the meeting. I love how I gain a deeper knowledge about a person or on a topic from them. Members receive a manual as a guide on how to create and deliver speeches and can speak on any topic. So you can only imagine the great variety of topics it’s everything from fluff to flowers and plenty more.
Serious Fun?
Fun is an important part of Dublin Toastmasters club because we learn best through humour and fun but make no mistake we’re all here to learn and improve. The calibre of speaker in Dublin Toastmasters is impressive and if you aim to be an impressive speaker you’ll be joining a superb group. Even if this wasn’t enough, if you stay after the meeting we chat in the bar, it’s where we get some of our best ideas!
Come visit Dublin Toastmasters any Thursday evening to see for yourself.
